Becky Toughill is a jewellery designer with studios in Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire UK. She uses a combination of glass, pearl, paper, semi precious stones, shell, silver and vintage beads to create classic, handcrafted designs with their own identity.
Being creative is her passion. Since a young age she always drew, sketched and sculpted. After taking A Levels in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, she then trained in Graphic Design at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and later took a BA(Hons) in Textile Design at DeMontfort University in Leicester. Between her studies. Becky worked in a bank and studied silver smithing, thus her love for jewellery design was born. Now a qualified secondary Art and Design teacher, Becky stocks nationwide to various boutiques and galleries, as well as making bespoke wedding accessories and stationery.
Becky's jewellery is about a personal handcrafted response to sensitive and often natural materials; something that is classic and cannot be repeated. Each piece is a textural contrast, with offset colours and juxtaposed large and small beads to rebel against the 'safe' commercialised disposable jewellery seen in so many High Street outlets. Becky scours charity shops, ebay, antique shops and vintage outlets to create her one of a kind jewellery art. What results is a tactile visual conundrum - with shiny, shimmery surfaces, reflective layers and delicious sandy, bumpy beads all in one item. Every piece has a story and a character that is too good not to cherish and love forever.
